ThinkDesign CAD for product design, styling and tooling
Hybrid 3D CAD that combines solids, surfaces and free-form shape control in one package, from concept to mold and die design. The current release is ThinkDesign 2026.

What ThinkDesign does
ThinkDesign puts styling and engineering in one CAD package. These are the capabilities designers and tool makers use most.
- Solids and surfaces together
- Solid modeling and advanced surface modeling work on the same model, so styling and engineering stay in one tool.
- Global Shape Modeling (GSM)
- Deforms curves, surfaces, solids and STL meshes as a whole, to reach complex shapes that are hard to build with classic modeling, and to apply zone draft and shape changes to tool surfaces.
- Interactive Solid Modeling (ISM)
- Edit existing geometry directly, including imported models, with or without history: select faces to move, offset, delete or add. Well suited to repairing and changing CAD from suppliers.
- Sheet metal and frames
- A sheet metal wizard for bends and cuts, including step bends on cylindrical, conical and curved surfaces. Frame design places profiles along a 3D path with automatic trimming.
- Smart objects
- Reusable groups of features, up to whole assemblies, that can be placed into new models.
- Mold and die design
- Plastic injection mold design (Mold Design), metal stamping die design (Die Design) and springback compensation of stamping dies (Compensator).
- Reverse engineering and meshes
- Repair and edit scanned meshes, place primitives on a mesh, apply GSM to meshes and re-create surfaces from scans.
- Large assemblies and 2D/3D
- One environment for parts and assemblies, simplified representation of large assemblies, motion with collision detection, and integrated 2D drafting.

Application areas
- Mold and die makers
- Tool surfaces, draft, mold and die design.
- Automotive parts
- Parts with free-form surfaces and sheet metal.
- Consumer products
- Styled shapes that also need engineering detail.
- Machinery
- Parts, assemblies, frames and drawings.
Engineering benefits
- One tool from concept to tooling
- Styling, engineering and tool design use the same model.
- Change imported CAD quickly
- Interactive modeling edits geometry without its original history.
- Shapes classic CAD struggles with
- GSM changes shape globally instead of rebuilding features.
- Reuse what works
- Smart objects bring proven features into new designs.
